Official Terms & Conditions

LIFE180 IUL Challenge

1. Purpose

The LIFE180 IUL Challenge (“Challenge”) is a marketing and educational initiative designed to generate content, discussion, and professional dialogue within the life insurance industry. The Challenge is intended to bring attention to common illustration practices and expectation-setting approaches used when presenting permanent life insurance solutions, including both Indexed Universal Life (“IUL”) and Whole Life (“WL”) insurance products.

The Challenge seeks to encourage transparent, balanced, and informed conversations by demonstrating how differing policy structures, illustration assumptions, crediting methodologies, and design philosophies can materially impact long-term outcomes. The Challenge is expressly intended to facilitate discussion and analysis from both sides of the permanent insurance spectrum, including agents and professionals who advocate for WL-based strategies as well as those who utilize IUL-based strategies. This challenge does in no means mean that IUL does not work,

Participation in the Challenge is intended solely for comparative, educational, and marketing purposes. It does not constitute financial, tax, legal, or investment advice; does not evaluate or judge the conduct, intent, or competence of any individual agent or organization; and does not create any fiduciary duty or advisory relationship with LIFE180. LIFE180 does not allege wrongdoing by any agent, carrier, or distributor and makes no representation regarding the suitability or appropriateness of any policy, product type, or strategy for any individual.

2. Policy Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for participation, all submitted policies must meet all of the following requirements:

- The policy must be at least ten (10) years from the original policy effective date.

- Survivorship or joint-life policies are not eligible.

- The policy must be issued and currently in force within the United States.

- The policy must not be subject to active litigation, carrier disputes, rescission review, or regulatory action.

The following policy types, features, assumptions, and structures are not eligible for participation in the Challenge:

- Fixed index options or fixed account allocations of any kind.

- Fixed-rate or fixed-crediting policy assumptions, including any illustrations, in-force projections, or comparisons that rely on declared fixed rates rather than indexed crediting.

- Variable Universal Life (VUL) policies.

- Traditional Universal Life (UL) policies with index-like features.

- Survivorship or joint-life policies.

- Policies involved in any form of Section 1035 exchange, partial or full.

The original illustration must:

- Reflect the maximum available indexed crediting option at the time of policy issue.

- Not include alternate, blended, midpoint, or modified assumptions.

- The illustration must reflect carrier-declared assumptions in effect at issue, including caps, participation rates, spreads, bonuses, and charges.

- Loan assumptions (fixed or variable; participating or non-participating) must match those used in the original illustration.

- A current in-force policy illustration is required and must:

- Reflect actual policy values as of the most recent policy anniversary.

- Match the policy’s annual statement, if requested by LIFE180.

5. Prohibited Policy Modifications

To preserve the integrity of the Challenge, the following are strictly prohibited:

Post-issue policy changes that materially impact performance, including but not limited to:

- Death benefit option changes

- Face amount increases or reductions

- Rider additions, removals, or modifications

- Loan strategy changes not originally illustrated

- Underwriting reconsiderations or rating improvements of any kind.

Any changes made with the intent to engineer or manipulate outcomes for Challenge participation.

6. Premium & Funding Restrictions

No Section 1035 exchanges of any kind are permitted.

Single-pay policies are not allowed.

Changes in premium funding are permitted only if consistent with the original policy structure and not designed to manipulate performance outcomes.

Overfunded premium designs may be disallowed, in whole or in part, at the sole and absolute discretion of LIFE180, if such funding is determined to materially distort comparative results or undermine the integrity of the Challenge.

7. Documentation & Verification

All submitted documents must be complete, accurate, unaltered, and carrier-issued.

LIFE180 reserves the right to:

-Request original policy contracts, delivery receipts, and in-force documents directly from the issuing carrier.

-Independently verify policy data with the carrier.

-Request and obtain the complete original (as-sold) illustration and the current in-force illustration directly from the issuing carrier, to confirm authenticity and preserve the integrity of the Challenge. (Added 07/01/2026)

Request the identity of, and confirmation from, the licensed agent or producer who sold the policy, including verification of the agent of record with the issuing carrier. Added [07/01/2026

Failure to provide requested documentation within a reasonable timeframe may result in immediate disqualification.

8. Review Process

Submissions are subject to up to thirty (30) days of review from the date all required documents are received.

Review timelines may be extended at LIFE180’s discretion due to verification requirements or submission volume.

9. Performance Disclosure & No Guarantee

All illustrations and analyses are hypothetical and non-predictive.

Past performance or illustrated results do not guarantee future performance.

LIFE180 makes no representation or warranty regarding:

- Future index crediting performance

- Policy sustainability

- Loan arbitrage outcomes

- Tax treatment of any policy

Carrier-declared elements are subject to change pursuant to policy provisions.

10. Disqualification & Final Authority

LIFE180 reserves the absolute right to disqualify any submission at any time for any reason deemed necessary to protect the integrity of the Challenge.

All determinations by LIFE180 are final and non-appealable.

LIFE180 reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the Challenge or these Terms & Conditions at any time without notice.

11. Limitation of Liability & Indemnification

LIFE180 shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from participation in the Challenge.

Participation constitutes a full release, waiver, and indemnification of LIFE180 from any claims related to Challenge participation, interpretations, or outcomes.

12. Content Usage & Media Release

By participating in the LIFE180 IUL Challenge (“Challenge”), the participant irrevocably grants LIFE180, its affiliates, successors, and assigns a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, display, distribute, publish, adapt, modify, excerpt, anonymize, aggregate, and create derivative works from any materials, data, illustrations, analyses, statements, submissions, communications, or results provided in connection with the Challenge (“Content”).

Such Content may be used for marketing, educational, training, commentary, promotional, research, and discussion purposes, including but not limited to use across digital platforms, websites, social media, presentations, webinars, podcasts, written publications, sales materials, and internal or external training content. Content may be presented in identified, anonymized, or aggregated form, at LIFE180’s sole discretion.

Participation constitutes acknowledgment and agreement that:

- LIFE180 has no obligation to use or publish any Content.

- LIFE180 may edit Content for clarity, length, format, or context, provided it is not materially misrepresented.

- No compensation is owed for any use of Content.

- Participation does not imply endorsement of any policy, product, agent, carrier, or strategy.

- The participant waives any right to inspect or approve final Content usage.

- The participant represents and warrants that they have the legal authority to submit the Content and to grant this license, and agrees to release, defend, indemnify, and hold harmless LIFE180 from any claims arising from permitted use of the Content.

13. Award Limitations & Conclusion of ChallengeAdded [07/01/2026]

The Challenge award may be won one (1) time only. No participant, policy, or submission may receive more than one award.

The first submission determined by LIFE180 to satisfy all of these Terms & Conditions shall be deemed the winning submission and shall conclude the Challenge. Upon a valid, verified win, the Challenge is closed, and no further submissions will be evaluated or considered eligible for any award.

Where more than one submission is under review prior to a determination, priority shall be based on the date each complete submission — including all required documentation — was received by LIFE180.

14. Index Availability & Crediting ContinuityEffective 08/01/2026

Because indexed crediting depends on the availability and continuity of the specific index or indexes referenced in the original illustration, the following apply:

If an index referenced in the original illustration has been discontinued, closed, replaced, renamed, reconstituted, or otherwise materially changed by the carrier or index provider such that a like-for-like comparison between the original illustration and current in-force performance is no longer possible, the submission may be disqualified, in whole or in part, at LIFE180’s reasonable discretion.

Substitution, reallocation, or change of index, crediting method, or index account occurring after policy issue may result in disqualification where it materially affects comparability or the integrity of the Challenge.

LIFE180 may request additional carrier documentation to evaluate index continuity and confirm that current in-force crediting is being compared on a consistent basis with the original illustration

15. Changes to Terms

These Terms & Conditions are subject to change without notice.
